Coffee
accounts for nearly half of the total net exports from countries from Latin
America, Asia, and Africa. In 2001 coffee prices had dropped to their lowest
levels since 1960. This drop in prices impacted more than 25 million homes in
coffee producing countries. In the
1990’s Vietnam became a major coffee producer and exporter, but to the expense
of smaller producers in other countries. The United States is now one if the top coffee consumers.
